Reptiles of the Galapagos Islands

Reptiles of the Galapagos Islands

For avid nature lovers, a small group wildlife cruise in Galapagos affords a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to encounter a wide range of unique animals, including a host of fascinating reptiles.
The local habitat is extremely favourable for reptiles and the original arrivals were more than likely washed up on the shores attached to driftwood or vegetation that came from mainland South America. Because they can subsist on very little water, many more of them would have survived the journey than their mammal compatriots. Over the ensuing millennia, they evolved to adapt to their habitat in many ways – so much so that they are virtually unrecognisable from their ancient ancestors.

The Giant Tortoise

Needing little introduction, Giant Tortoises are probably the most sought-after sighting for visitors on a wildlife cruise in Galapagos. While they have no natural predators and were free to live extended lives and evolve to their massive proportions, at one stage human intervention (from pirates and whalers) decimated their numbers. Today, however, they can be observed in their natural habitat (predominantly in the cool, lush highlands of Santa Cruz), and also in the breeding stations on Santa Cruz, Isabela and San Cristobal. True to their name they can grow to weigh up to 250kg.

The Marine Iguana

These remarkably adapted animals are the only sea-going lizard in the world. Their ability to dive for food to depths of 15m sets them apart as a unique endemic species. They’re able to regulate their own body temperature and are quite often seen sunning themselves on the rocky shoreline in order to bring their temperature back to normal after oceanic dives. They can be found throughout the coastal habitat of the archipelago and, like the majority of the wildlife here, are not concerned by the presence of humans.

The Land Iguana

Land Iguanas are larger than their marine counterparts and are not seen as prolifically. They tend to be quite solitary in nature and prefer to forage alone for their food source (vegetation) in a grassy scrubland habitat. Their preferred delicacy is spiky cactus plants, which the hardened, coarse skin around their mouth allows them to devour, spines and all. A new Pink Iguana has recently been discovered on the volcanic slopes of Isabela, although due to the nature of their very small population it’s not possible for visitors to see them.

The Lava Lizard

Lava Lizards can be seen scurrying around everywhere, seemingly always in a hurry to be somewhere else. They subsist on a diet of small insects and grow anywhere up to 30cm in length. The seven endemic sub-species of the lizard all have unique adapted characteristics, depending on where they’re found. Experienced naturalists can tell at a glance from which island they come.

Reptiles Unique to the Region

Some of the other reptiles that might be seen are any of the nine species of geckos and the four sub-species of small, harmless snakes. Most of the reptiles of the region are now considered endemic, which means that those who explore these fascinating islands on a wildlife cruise in Galapagos will see animals that cannot be found anywhere else on the planet.

Sen. Warner on Sessions’ knowledge of Russian contacts: “A picture’s worth a thousand words”

Sen. Warner on Sessions’ knowledge of Russian contacts: “A picture’s worth a thousand words”

Sen. Mark Warner, D-Virginia, said Sunday – in light of recent charges filed against former Trump campaign aide George Papadopoulos – that congressional investigators would like to hear from Attorney General Jeff Sessions again if there is any information he needs to clarify.

“Listen, I want to give the attorney general the benefit of the doubt, but a picture is worth a thousand words. information that he needs to clarify, we’d like to hear that, “Warner said Sunday on CBS News'” Face the Nation. ”

Transcript: Sen. Mark Warner on “Face the Nation”

– Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) April 1, 2016
Court documents unsealed over the past week have renewed interest in whether Sessions misled Congress when he tested recently that neither he nor anyone else was in contact with Russian operatives during the 2016 presidential campaign, CBS News’ Jeff Pegues reported.

Last month, Sessions testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee that neither he nor anyone else was in contact with Russian operatives during the election cycle.

Pegues reports the court documents unsealed this week claim Papadopoulos, who pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about the nature of his contacts with foreign nationals, offered to set up a meeting between then-candidate Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. Papadopoulos made the offer during the national security team meeting.

Warner now says the Senate Intelligence Committee, on which he serves as a vice chairman, still needs to ascend to Papadopoulos, as well as Paul Manafort and Rick Gates.

“There’s obviously enormous concerns as well,” said Warner.

He added that there are also “counts” of “principals” that include commissioners of President Trump’s son, Donald Trump Jr.

“We’ve talked to a lot of the folks who were in that so-called June 9th meeting We’ve been holding off on the principals until we get all the preliminaries done,” said Warner.

He added, “There are other figures that are at the top of the list. We also want to continue to explore from a policy standpoint this whole question around social media. ”

This past week, Warner, along with his Senate and House colleagues, focused their ongoing probe on social media’s involvement in the spread of disinformation and Russian-financed ads leading up to the election. He said that representatives for those sites have taken a while longer than he would like to respond to the issue.

“The fact that for a Relatively small amount of money, $ 100,000-plus, plus a series of fake accounts, the Russians were able to contact or touch 126 million Americans with their fake sow discontent. it was before even Facebook that it’s a lot of stories there that need to continue to be unraveled, “said Warner.

He added, “You know, these are great, iconic American companies.” The Russians used it this, this past election. ”

Warner suggested that lawmakers need to take the “lightest touch possible” with regard to potential legislation in handling future missteps by social media sites and political ads.

“As a pro-tech guy, somebody who was in the tech business longer than I’ve been in politics, I think we need to take the lightest touch possible. on the internet that, that exists for ads that appear on your show I think makes sense, “the senator added.

Men’s Winter Coats: How to Improve Your Winter Fashion

Winter have you wearing the same pair of sweatpants or boring jackets over and over again? Unsure how to look good while staying warm?

The good news is you can look great in even the chilliest of seasons, and bundling up in sub-freezing temperatures does not have to be complicated.

We’ve created this guide of men’s winter coats to keep you looking stylish and hot, even when the weather is not.

Whether you’re shopping for you or looking for a gift for the man in your life, we’ve got you covered.

Let’s get into it!

Guidelines to Men’s Winter Coats
Know Your Budget

Spend, on average, $ 85 dollars each month on clothing. That’s about $ 1,020 annually.

Before investing in your coat, it’s important to have a general ballpark regarding how much you are willing to spend.

This will help you narrow down stores, types of materials, and brands. After all, if you’re only looking to spend about $ 150, it would not make sense to visit stores with prices hovering over $ 800, would it?

We commend that before making any clothing decisions, make your budget!

Find Your Fit

This is not your father’s wardrobe. Men’s winter coats have come a long way in terms of style and sizing.

Determine what kind of coat you’re looking for. Something slim-fitting? Something for the office? For formal events? For travels and adventure? (and yes, a coat for the Dominican Republic has a different purpose of a coat for the Rockies)

Narrowing down your purpose will help you narrow down the appropriate styles and fits for the occasion.

Consider Fur

If you think fur is only for rich people, think again. We’re convinced this is the hottest trend of 2017.

This article suggests that a proper fur coat is one of the most stylish ways to stay warm and look good doing it.

With different lengths, patterns, and options (yes, faux fur is trendy!), This is one of our favorite kinds of men’s winter coats

Do not Forget the Accessories

Men’s winter coats are just part of the attire. If it’s really cold out, you’ll likely need proper shoes, scarf, and head protection (additional as a beanie) for additional protection.

Maybe you already have some of these pieces. Maybe it is important for you to coordinate matching styles or colors.

Either way, these should be taken into consideration when planning out your budget and style.

Rock the Boots

Want a surefire way to look stylish?

Ditch the sneakers and pair your men’s winter coats with well-fitted boots. Not only do they define your style and create a sense of professionalism, they are also comfortable and warm!

If you’re looking for outdoor protection (and style), consider checking out the endless designs and styles guaranteed to keep you happily active.

Final Thoughts
No matter what the season (or how hot or cold it is), you should never have to compromise looking and feeling good.

If your wardrobe is in need of an update, men’s winter coats are a great way to show off your style and personality while keeping you warm. Win-win, right?

In addition, the battery has long been forced with variable speed controls so the user can easily adjust to the situation and extend the battery life.

The History Behind Folded Origami Paper

These days, origami is everywhere.

This is a children’s book like Sadako and The Thousand Paper Cranes. It is featured in the museum as an art. It’s even used as an educational tool to help students learn fractional skills and problem solving!

But what is the history of origami? How has it developed over the years?

Read on to find out!

Where and How Origami Begins
Even the word Origami has an interesting history behind it. This is actually made of two words in Japanese: “Ori,” which means “folds”, and “we”, meaning “paper”.

This is a word that defines itself!

Art origami arrived long enough after the paper became available all over the world. Around the 6th century, monks began to bring paper to Japan.

However, because paper origami is still rare (and therefore expensive!) Mainly used in religious ceremonies.

Origami is used in a wedding ceremony, where a butterfly is folded symbolizes the bride. It also folded into a symbol of luck used and given by the Samurai, in the hope of remaining safe in battle.

Even played in the legend of ancient Japan. For example, many ancient folk tales tell the story of folded birds that fly, turning into native birds.

Origami: Next Step
Of course, it did not take long for the global interest of origami to flourish.

In the late 1400s, origami began to spread to Europe. Here, folding techniques and objects made are also utilized in everyday life.

It’s been popular in Europe to fold small boxes to store jewelry or other light items, or even to send personalized messages and letters!

Interestingly, we may owe much of what we now know about origami to kindergarten. The so-called “Kindergarten” system was created in the early 19th century to help children learn life skills, and to make it easier for them to enter the educational environment.

The founder of the Kindergarten System, Friedrich Frobel, born in Germany, sees that folding paper and binding can help young people learn valuable motor coordination and skills.

The reality is that many of the earliest kindergarten curriculums are filled with origami lessons!

More and more European countries began to adopt the Frobel TK System, and origami spread rapidly. In fact, the small, brightly colored origami paper wrap that we first learned to fold is a direct result of the Kindergarten System system in origami.

Sure, because of the idea of the spread of kindergartens as well as origami.

What Next for Origami?
Currently, there are classes, communities, and even YouTube videos that are all dedicated to sharing origami art with as many people as possible.

Origami never stops developing, and new techniques are found every time. A very popular one called “wet folding.” Folders will lightly dip their paper into the water and fold it. This helps the paper to hold its shape even longer.

What will they think next? Only time will tell.

To learn complicated folding techniques, to get an idea from the experts, or just to be inspired by the intricate origami art form, always keep an eye for your industry website, museum exhibit, and video tutorial channel.
